Protect What You Own Inside
the Place You Rent
A landlord's insurance generally covers the
property owner's interest in the building.
It does not normally pay to replace the tenant's
clothing, furniture, electronics, and other
personal belongings after a covered loss.
Renters insurance can include personal property
coverage, personal liability, and qualifying
additional living expenses if the rental becomes
temporarily unlivable after a covered event.
Coverage follows the policy limits and deductibles.
Some belongings may have special limits, and
high-value items may need additional coverage.
Estimate the value of what you own room by room.
Keep receipts, photos, or an inventory where
possible. Ask whether the policy uses replacement
cost or actual cash value for personal property
and what events are excluded.
